About the archive

Okavango Frame is a non-commercial archive of wildlife photography and field footage from eastern and southern Africa. We collect material that its authors released under free licences, normalise it into a single catalogue, and publish it with full attribution.

The project started from a practical problem. Someone planning a first trip wants to know what they will actually see in a given park in a given month. Scattered search results do not answer that: you cannot tell where or when a picture was taken, or whether it is typical.

So the archive is organised around places and seasons rather than around species. For each area we show what the material looks like in season, and we link back to the original file page so the date and location can be verified independently.

There is no advertising, no paid tier and no tracking. Hosting and bandwidth are paid for privately. If you would like to contribute your own material under a free licence, please get in touch.
